Palm Beach State Students tour Ocean Ridge Biosciences (2014-12-08)

On Monday November 25th, 2014 Ocean Ridge Biosciences (ORB) hosted a tour of the lab facility for Palm Beach State Biotechnology students. This biannual tour includes presentation of the business model, marketplace, services, and instruments to provide students an out-of-classroom context for biotechnology applications. ORB scientists explained the utility and general process of our genomic-based services, including RNA sequencing, microarrays for microRNA and gene expression, and multiplex immunoassays.

A demonstration of ORB's Luminex xMAP instrument highlighted the increased functionality of Multiplex Protein Profiling over ELISA testing. Dr. David Willoughby provided a detailed presentation of ORB's Bioinfomatics services, as advanced data analysis is an essential component of the company's services. Students on this tour were especially impressed with the ultralow input of picograms required to operate our Aglient Bioanalyzer in QC Analysis.

The PBS Biotechnology program is available to AA, AS, and Biotechnology College Credit Certificate students. The program is led by a renowned scientific faculty of doctoral researchers and prepares students for entry into employment in the biotech industry, research institutions, and related industries. Some students proceed to obtain BS, MS, or doctoral degrees, while others enter directly into the biotech workforce. Ocean Ridge Biosciences is one of several local research organizations to provide tours to PBS Biotech students.

Each tour invigorates and inspires ORB scientists to ask new research questions and discover new answers, allowing us to provide the most innovative, reliable, and efficient RNA and Protein Profiling services!
